Indiana Family and Social Services Department

Indiana Family and Social Services Department Overview

In 2007, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels moved ahead with a plan to modernize and privatize the Family and Social Services Department services. This change necessitated that the employees move to new locations, and their furniture had to keep pace with the new technology that was being implemented. Computer kiosks were installed for clients who didn’t have home access. Large conference rooms were eliminated. Offices were open and did not have doors, and conversations were now to be held on the telephone rather than in-person as they were previously. All of this impacted the layouts and space allocation of the new spaces. Designers immediately started on field measurements of all 49 counties that were involved while in-office personnel handled the enormous job of project management.

One of the biggest challenges for OfficeWorks was the speed with which the offices had to be furnished. So products were chosen that were on Quick Ship programs whenever possible. Combining multiple installations in a particular part of the State saved time and money for everyone involved. The employees also needed furniture that was easily reconfigurable; cost-conscious and durable. The answer for FSSA was found at OfficeWorks. Using a minimal number of components and low cost, high-performance seating, OfficeWorks was able to meet the tight budget requirements and get the job done on time.
